In NEST, visitors become immersed in a landscape with a central sculpture and punctuated by glowing spheres of light. Each sphere represents an egg, a vibrant individual carrying a unique identity. A sculpture in the center of the room has 3 holes, and serves as the nest, beckoning to viewers with a constant hum.
Since the eggs are positioned freely in the room, visitors can pick them up and move them around at will and place them in a hole to add a sound to the ambient composition. When one is removed, that sound is silenced, making the visitor conscious of his or her efforts to control the environment's musical composition.
Each of 100 individual spheres has a unique RFID tag embedded within it and corresponds to one of 100 possible sounds that can be used as part of the mix.
