ThIs collaboration with composer Skooby Laposky featured three sonic experiences throughout the outdoor grounds at Cranbrook: in the Japanese Garden, alongside the Lucifer Landing rocks, and inside the “Canopy Tree” near Cranbrook House, inviting visitors to contribute to an ever-shifting generative composition, literally becoming part of the live mix.
We embedded electronics to read plant capacitance, layered with sensors that detected visitors’ presence. Each composition was custom created and site specific, turning Cranbrook’s amazing campus into a data driven musical instrument, celebrating springtime plant activity and welcoming people to explore.
This event took place during Open Studios on April 28, 2019.
